Using the Frame Assist Function

There are many ways to take pictures of the sea. The shape and size of the waves ever lapping the beach are always changing. That's why it's important to carefully observe the waves to take a picture of a particularly large or an interestingly-shaped wave. If you included an horizontal line in the framing of the picture, be careful not to tilt the camera. Take the picture holding the camera tightly so that the horizontal lines in your picture don't appear skewed or slanted.

Use the Frame Assist function

If you include horizontal lines in your picture and they end up appearing slanted because you tilted the camera, the picture will have an unnatural look. Some camera models have a function to display frame assist lines over the grid of the monitor. This is very convenient to make sure that the camera is not skewed or slanted.

When taking a picture of the waves on a beach, you want to take the shot at the correct timing, paying attention to the shape and size of the waves. But sometimes you are paying so much attention to the waves, that you may not notice that you accidentally tilted the camera. If the horizontal lines in your picture appear slanted, the picture will have an unnatural look. In such cases, it may be handy to use the frame assist function.Compare how paying some attention can completely change the look of the same sea scene.

Useful things to remember

When taking a picture of the waves on a beach, take the shot at the correct timing, paying attention to the shape and size of the waves. Try taking not just one but several pictures at a time, and later select the one shot at the best timing.
