Super close-up: cherry blossom with Olympus E-500,
ZUIKO DIGITAL 35mm 1:3.5 Macro and EX-25 extension tube.

Close-up and macro photography have always been among Olympus’s specialities – so it is no surprise that the E-System shines with tailor-made close-up solutions. In addition to two macro lenses, the EX-25 extension tube helps E-System photographers to advance even further into the fascinating world of minute objects. If needed, the professional Macro flash system and the RF-11 ring flash can provide the perfect lighting. With the ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 50mm 1:2.0 Macro the Olympus range includes a firstrate specialist close-up lens that can produce 1:1 images (in terms of 35mm format) without accessories. Also as a short focal length, bright telephoto the dust and splash-proof professional lens cuts an exceptional figure and is valued by many professional photographers as an excellent portrait focal length. The ZUIKO DIGITAL 35mm 1:3.5 Macro allows even higher magnification scales (2:1 in relation to a 35mm film camera) and offers outstanding value for money, compact dimensions, extremely low weight (165g) and equally professional imaging performance.

PRO TIPS

  1. Thanks to Live View the Olympus models E-330, E-410 and E-510 are perfect for macro photography.
  2. Lighting problems due to the extreme closeness to the object are solved by the Olympus RF-11 ring flash which can be used on the ZUIKO DIGITAL Macros by attaching the FR-1 adapter ring.
  3. Keep your equipment up to date – for example with Firmware Update 1.1 for the EX-25, which improves lens recognition.

 EVEN CLOSER WITH THE EX-25
The EX-25 extension tube is the solution for even greater image scales – and not only with the macros but also with the ZUIKO DIGITAL lenses 14-45mm 1:3.5-5.6; 14-54mm 1:2.8-3.5; 40-150mm 1:3.5-5.6; ED 50-200mm 1:2.8-3.5; ED 18-180mm 1:3.5-6.3 and the fixed focal lengths of the Top Pro line. With an extended length of 25mm the EX-25 changes the maximum extension of a lens and reduces its minimum focus. This greatly increases the image scale. The largest scale is achieved by combining the 35mm 1:3.5 Macro and the EX-25, with the magnification factor rising to 1.68x. An object is therefore shown almost twice as large as in reality. In our examples on the right you can see how the image size changes with the EX-25 using the two macros. It goes without saying that photos like these require a tripod.
