Photography is not only about achieving high quality results – speed is just as important. The Olympus E-System is primed for rapid shooting and fast processing and delivers on all counts.

Image processing, data transfer, and camera control can all be carried out simultaneously thanks to the use of a high-performance CPU and three ASICs (Application-Specific Integrated Circuits).

E-300/ E-500: TruePic Turbo
Developed by Olympus, the TruePic technology optimises the image information captured on the CCD before the data is saved. It uses the brightness and colour information of the neighbouring pixels when processing the pixel data. These calculations, only possible with the super-fast RISC and Olympus ASIC processor, lead to digital pictures that set standards for picture sharpness, contrast, true colours and gradation.

E-1: A triple chip system for rapid processing
A separate ASIC chip is dedicated to each the following three areas of camera operation, to ensure high speed processing:

ASIC 1: Image processing
ASIC 2: Interface processing
ASIC 3: Camera control

High Speed shooting

The E-System features high speed burst shooting.

With the E-1 High-speed burst shooting at up to 12 exposures at 3 frames per second is possible in any image quality mode.

The E-300/ E-500 features high-speed burst shooting at up to 4 exposures at 2.5 frames per second in TIFF/Raw and in JEPG even more depending on the compression rate and the speed of the CF card.

With the E-500, continuous shooting until the end of the card capacity is possible with a high speed media card such as SanDisk Extreme III in SQ/HQ mode.
