Snowboarders catching air, mountain bikers hitting the trail and BMXers on halfpipes: it’s all picture perfect in the world of Rob Trnka. The professional extreme sports photographer knows just what he has to do to capture the spirit of this painstaking yet thrilling sports genre. It’s no wonder then, that his test run with the newest addition to the Olympus E-System, the professional E-3, went exceptionally well. |
Czech-born Trnka praises the benefits of the incorporated image stabiliser: “Image stabilisation on the E-3 really is beneficial. I personally use it in various situations where you don’t want to disrupt the atmosphere by setting up a monopod or a tripod. Thanks to the image stabiliser, I can now use shutter speeds of five EV steps lower than normal”. Naturally, when it comes to durability, Trnka knows the value of a tough camera. “The robustness of a camera is absolutely crucial for me. I work in an environment where I’m dependent on available light, real outdoor conditions which I often have no control over”, says Trnka. “As a professional photographer, I shoot my pictures at the decisive moment which is not always under ideal conditions, so my camera must be 100% reliable. It must be insensitive to cold, moisture and dust – completely dependable. And that’s what the E-3 definitely is”.
