First European Scanner Contest Olympus VS110 wins two awards at the first European Scanner Contest
Olympus has won two awards at the first European Scanner Contest, which took place from the 25th – 29th May in Berlin, running in parallel with the 94th Annual Meeting of the German Society of Pathology and the 10th Pathology Federal Meeting. The Olympus VS110-S5 competed against five slide scanner vendors to secure two of the three awards within the quality category: scanning mixed slides at 20x and 40x (0.16 µm). This success highlights its ability to accurately image three pre-determined diagnostically relevant regions of interest (ROI) in ten different slides.

Richard Leach NPL using Olympus LEXT OLS4000 to develop areal surface texture measuring standards
The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) is using its LEXT OLS4000 in a project to establish good practice guidelines for the calibration of 3D/areal surface texture measuring instruments. The NPL project will establish robust and easy to use calibration steps and reference standards for all the major areal surface measurement instrumentation technologies, with the LEXT chosen as the reference imaging confocal microscope. The good practice guide on calibration of confocal microscopes will also provide input to the upcoming ISO 25187-707 standard.

Olympus introduces new dedicated high-resolution brightfield objectives for industrial imaging
Olympus has introduced the new MPLAPON series of plan apochromatic objectives, which provide the ultimate level of chromatic aberration correction for materials imaging. Completing the Olympus UIS2 objective range, the MPLAPON objectives are available in 50x and 100x magnification. Developed to provide excellent brightfield imaging, including DIC, the MPLAPON objectives feature numerical apperatures (N.A) of 0.95 and are fully compatible with active auto-focusing units. As a result, highly resolved images can be obtained easily, making the MPLAPON Series ideal for inspecting minute areas in industrial imaging samples, such as semiconductor patterns.

LEXT OLS4000 aids development of reference standards in a project for an optical assistance system
