London, 02/07/2018 | Press release | Camera & audio New Olympus LS-P4 features 3 microphones, FLAC recording/playback & more in a compact metal body
The Olympus LS-P4 Linear PCM Recorder captures professional-quality audio for video, music recordings, interviews and a variety of other use cases. The LS-P4’s stylish but robust metal body is small enough to fit in any pocket while its technology allows for Hi-Res sound recording wherever you are.
Compact and versatile audio recorder with serious quality to capture audio for video, record music and many more
The new recorder features the acclaimed TRESMIC 3 microphone system for expanded frequency response in stereo sound capturing and better-than-CD Linear PCM 96kHZ/24bit format. New to the LS series and a big advantage in its class is the opportunity to now even record & play FLAC format up to 96kHz/24bit with the LS-P4. This allows users to achieve the same quality as PCM with smaller recording file sizes.
Besides a built-in Hi-Res music player, Bluetooth connectivity and in-device sound normalisation, the LS-P4 now features easy fade-in/fade-out as well as overdubbing editing directly via the recorder menu and without the need for a computer.
The LS-P4 will be available in black from 07. February 2018 at a recommended retail price of £189.99.
PRO quality & small size ensure a versatile range of use cases
Hi-Res sound recording and playback in such a small size: The new Olympus LS-P4 Linear PCM Recorder lets professional filmmakers, YouTube enthusiasts, musicians and other users enjoy the sound quality and versatility that the Olympus LS Series is renowned for – in a compact and robust design making it the ideal companion for on the go.
Out of many use cases, a particular up and coming one is of course filmmaking: in combination with the latest Olympus camera models such as the 4K-video-boasting OM-D E-M1 Mark II and OM-D E-M10 Mark III or the all-new Olympus PEN E-PL9, the LS-P4 is the perfect device to produce professional travel, documentary, event, wedding or music videos with Hi-Res sound or to create excellent audio for YouTube videos.
Hi-Res audio capturing through latest technology
Allowing for a frequency spectrum of a full 20Hz-20kHz, the built-in TRESMIC 3 microphone system ensures a rich stereophonic sound capture – irrespective of the environment the LS-P4 is used in.
When it gets loud, the capability of handling sound pressure levels (SPL) of up to 120dB without clipping as well as its new 2 mic noise cancelling system comes into play. If a recording was made with levels that were too low, the in-device normalisation allows for boosting the recording volume without distortion – now also for MP3 recordings.
Compared to former Olympus LS devices and many other recorders in its class, the LS-P4 has a new recording format with a big benefit up its sleeve: It is one of the first Linear PCM Recorders to be compatible with FLAC recording: due to a better compression rate, users can achieve a near perfect sampling rate of up to 96 kHz/24-Bit sound recording with up to 30% smaller files sizes and a longer recording time compared to PCM or WAV.
If needed, recordings may of course still be saved in PCM, WAV or MP3 format.
Music playing, additional features and accessories
On top of its 8GB internal memory, the LS-P4 features a Micro SD storage option and an USB connector, the Olympus LS-P4 is equipped with Bluetooth for wireless connectivity to other devices. This comes in handy when using the recorder as a music player (now also for Hi-Res FLAC files) with playback on Bluetooth-enabled headphones or speakers.
A tripod attachment is included for additional flexibility. The LS-P4 may also be connected to various system cameras, such as the Olympus OM-D models, using a hot shoe adapter and cable.
In select countries*, the Olympus LS-P4 comes with a free download license for Steinberg’s WaveLab LE audio editing software, providing not just the ability to capture and edit Hi-Res audio in-device, but to produce a broad range from videos over podcasts to music tracks on PRO level with a computer.
* Participating countries: United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, Austria, France, Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Czech, Poland, Hungary, Sweden, Norway, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Finland, Denmark, Greece, Bulgaria, Cyprus & Russia
