    Important Announcement regarding Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II

    Olympus takes every effort to ensure that our products are of the highest quality, and are safe for consumers. When a product concern arises, we investigate the details with the intent of communicating relevant findings and implementing an appropriate resolution as quickly as possible. Olympus Corporation has discovered that the lens lock pin on a small number of OM-D E-M10 Mark II cameras does not function properly, causing certain lenses with plastic mount not to lock properly. To date Olympus Europa did not start delivery of OM-D E-M10 Mark II to the market, with just very few exceptions. However, in order to secure uncompromised customer satisfaction it has been determined that European stock is being inspected prior to further distribution of the product to retail partners. The few cameras already sold within Europe may also be susceptible to this mechanical issue. For the users of these cameras, Olympus is offering a free inspection and maintenance, as a matter of cause. Owners of the new OM-D E-M10 Mark II camera should contact Olympus European Customer Support Center by calling 00800 67 10 84 00*. Olympus customer advisors are standing by with details of how to submit the camera for this free inspection. Alternatively, customers may send an e-mail to camera.repair.uk@olympus.eu. In this case it is necessary to include the camera’s serial number in the e-mail. This number is located on the bottom of the camera body.     Urgent notification for all users of the VG-170 camera

    Hamburg, 21 May 2015 – Due to a technical fault that can cause slight electric shock if the VG-170 camera is subjected to strong impact, Olympus is offering a free inspection and repair service to all users of this camera. Users of the VG-170 are advised to contact Olympus Customer Service as soon as possible to arrange for an inspection.  

    No risk of serious injury
    The potential electric shock may occur if the camera has been subjected to a strong impact and the user subsequently operates the zoom lever or shutter release. The electric shock does not represent a serious risk of injury. However, it can cause significant numbness of the fingertip, and thus discomfort. As of May 2015, this fault has affected three out of approximately 430,000 VG-170 cameras sold worldwide until end 2013. Olympus has notified the competent authorities for information purposes.

    To eliminate this possibility, Olympus urgently requests that owners of the VG-170 contact Olympus Customer Support before using their camera again – by calling 00800 67 10 84 00*. Olympus customer advisors are standing by with details of how to submit your camera for inspection and repair. Alternatively, send an e-mail to camera.repair.uk@olympus.eu. If you contact us in writing, please be sure to include your camera’s serial number in the e-mail. You’ll find this number on the bottom of your camera.

    Service notification for users of PT-054 underwater housing

    Hamburg, 19 February 2015 – Olympus has discovered that a faulty seal on the back of the PT-054 underwater housing could allow a small amount of water to leak into the housing in certain conditions. Owners of the PT-054 are advised to contact Olympus to request a replacement O-ring seal, which they can easily fit themselves.

    Underwater housing 100% safe The potential fault does not represent a risk to anyone using the housing. To prevent the possibility of leakage, Olympus nevertheless recommends that owners of the PT-054 request a free replacement O-ring from Olympus Customer Support before using the housing underwater again.

    PT-054 owners can request a free replacement O-ring by phone under 00800 67 10 83 00* or send an e-mail to camera.repair@olympus.eu. If sending a written request, please be sure to include your PT-054’s serial number in the e-mail.

    Notice of modification of the warranty system for Olympus digital cameras and accessories

    As of September 2014, Olympus will switch from the World Wide Guarantee System to the new Local Warranty System, entitled the European Service Warranty in the territory of Olympus Europa SE & Co. KG.

    The Olympus Imaging Corporation has provided the World Wide Guarantee for digital cameras and accessories since April 1, 2004. However, due to statutory regulations and variations in the infrastructure of repair facilities in different countries, Olympus has decided to alter the warranty system.

    This modification of the warranty system does not involve a reduction of the services guaranteed under the terms of the warranty. However, the validity of European Service Warranty Certificates will be limited to the business area of Olympus Europa SE & Co. KG, as stipulated on www.olympus-europa.com. Any repairs undertaken in countries outside this territory will be subject to charges. Any repairs of products, which have been purchased outside the business area of Olympus Europa SE & Co. KG will be subject to charges as they are not covered by the European Service Warranty.

    During a transition period from the World Wide Guarantee to the European Service Warranty, Olympus will continue to fulfill the World Wide Guarantee for cameras accompanied by a World Wide Guarantee Certificate.

    With regard to the warranty period, Olympus will continue to provide local warranties in accordance with the applicable national warranty period.

    RoHS Directive / IMPORTANT PRODUCT INFORMATION

    A change in regulations that became effective on January 1st 2013 has meant that a small number of Olympus products are no longer in line with European legislation (RoHS directive) restricting the use of lead in electronic devices to protect the environment. There is no risk to health from these products.

While the manual focus performance of all lenses functions as specified, in some lenses the autofocus may not operate in the intended manner. This is the result of a fault during the manufacturing process of the autofocusing drive. The potential problem only concerns ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-60mm 1:2.8-4.0 SWD lenses with serial numbers ranging between: 230005416 and 230010688. You can find the serial number here: We recommend that you check whether your lens is among those potentially affected to ensure that it continues to provide 100% performance. Naturally, Olympus is offering a free-of-charge inspection and repair service.
